Thomas Champagne has been crisscrossing Belgium with his trio for 12 years alrady (Gaume Jazz, Jazz à Liège, etc, cultural centres, clubs, ...) with some dates in France, Germany and the Netherlands. After a first album for the Igloo label (Charon's Boat, 2008), the Thomas Champagne Trio is celebrating a decade of encounters by inviting various musicians to join them in creating the “10 Years Project” (Quartets with Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Dre Peremans, Bart Defoort, Pierre Vaiana, Lorenzo Di Maio and Benjamin Prischi). The trio is currently playing in Nicolas Bedos’ play, “Promenade de santé” with Tania Garbarsky and Charlie Dupont.

In 2009, Champagne brought together hard-bop quintet The Sidewinders, with double-bassist Nicholas Yates (Igloo Records, November 2012). He plays and arranges for the Brazilian pop/rock septet UTZ (led by the singer and guitarist Renato Baccarat).

Champagne also features in the magnificent Al Manara project, bringing together fifteen Belgo-Palestinian musicians that play the music of Ramzi Aburedwan, arranged by Eloi Baudimont. They have played in Tournai’s cathedral, Spain, France, Tunisia, Palestine and the Fête de l’Huma in Paris. The Band has toured in Belgium, France and Palestine.

Two new projects have surfaced more recently: a retun to his work as a duo with pianist Christian Claessens and “Kind of Blue Tribute”, a homage Miles Davis’s legendary album, playing alongside Gino Lattuca, Michel Mainil, Eve Beuvens, Nicola Lancerotti and Bruno Castellucci.

In January 2014, Random House is born! A quartet with Guillaume Vierset, Ruben Lamon and Alain Deval. New sound and a completely different esthetic. The band is touring in Belgium and abroad (including a residence in Avignon). They released their first album “Sweet Day” in October 2017.

In April 2016, Thomas Champagne and Nicholas Yates created a Kids Project: GribouJazz. The Jazz told to childrens, a jazz quartet around illustrations designed and animated by Renato Baccarat and Christophe Vanderborght.

Still in 2016, UTZ (now an Octet) released his second album and won the Sabam Award in World Music (concerts in Esperanzah, Sfinks, …). Thomas Champagne is touring with the Mainil / Champagne Quintet (Paolo Loveri, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Bruno Castellucci) and is invited by Ramzi Aburedwan to play on a creation for the opening of the Festival des musiques sacrées (Fes – Marocco – May 2017).

Spring 2019 is the beginning of a new adventure for Random House. The band played 7 concerts with Adam O’Farrill, top trumpet player from New York. Together, they also recorded some new music to be release in 2020!

Alongside these projects, Thomas is also involved in several multi-discipine arts projects: composing music for short films, working with theatre and dance projects.
