Born in 1993 in Brussels, Sylvain Debaisieux ran very early into music thanks to his brother, a classical pianist and to his parents, classical and jazz lovers.
He began to play the saxophone at the age of 8, and started to learn improvisation during workshops at Libramont when he was 13 years old.
There and in different academies of music, he has been getting to know people who allowed him to grow musically : Stéphane Mercier, Bart Defoort, Pierre Vaiana, Bo Van Der Werf, Bernard Guyot, and many others…
He studied tenor saxophone under John Ruocco and Jeroen Van Herzeele at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. In 2016, he received a BAEF music study scholarship and was admitted in the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where is studied with Mark Shim, Ellery Eskelin and Anthony Coleman among many others. He first toured and recorded with Eve Beuvens’ Heptatomic. After 2 years of touring with the European Saxophone Ensemble, project directed by French saxophone player Guillaume Orti, he is now regularly performing on the Belgian and international scenes with different projects such as Pentadox, Lynn Cassiers Imaginary Band, Stéphane Galland & The Mystery of KEM and Ghalia Benalia & Mâäk MwSOUL .
