Dutch born, in '64, Stefan got his first piano lessons when he was 8 years old. During secondary school he started focusing on guitar and electric bass. At age 18 he started playing acoustic bass and entered the conservatory.

He graduated 'Summa Cum Laude', from Hilversum in '89. In '90 he obtained a full scholarship from the Dutch government to study with Marc JOHNSON in New York.

In 1991 he won the award for best soloist at the Karlsbad jazz festival (Czech Rep.).

Over the years Stefan performed with a number of great names such as Nat ADDERLEY, Freddie HUBBARD, Dee Dee BRIDGEWATER, Jimmy COBB, Philip CATHERINE, Art PORTER, Spike ROBINSON, Stacy ROWLES, Horace PARLAN, Bob BERG, Ivan PADUART... .

In spring '96 Stefan recorded his 1st solo project, consisting of original compositions. He was accompanied by outstanding musicians such as Gary NOVAK (drums), Chick COREA 4tet, Thierry ELIEZ (piano, Hammond), Dee Dee BRIDGEWATER.

Stefan participated in numerous recordings.

His collaboration with Belgian musicians has taken multiple forms, with musicians like : Ivan PADUART, Erwin VANN, the band STREAMS with Bart DEFOORT and Diederik WISSELS, the Ernst VRANCKX Quintet etc...
