Jérémy Dumont (1987) began studying the violin at the age of 5. After a stint as a chorister at the RTBF, he began playing the piano at the age of 12 with the concert pianist Karin Lechner. He completed his secondary education with the classical piano option at the Arthur Grumiaux Conservatory in Charleroi, completed with a jazz improvisation course with Thomas De Prins. He spent a year at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp and did numerous internships in Belgium and abroad, all while taking private lessons in classical piano with Geneviève Vandermeulen and jazz with Ivan Paduart and Eric Vermeulen. He entered the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in Eric Legnini's class. He completed his Master's degree with distinction in 2013, while giving numerous concerts in Belgium, France and Luxembourg.
Jérémy experimented with different styles, mainly derived for jazz, and founded various groups: The Unexpected 4, Jérémy Dumont Trio, Solid Steps Quintet, and Brussels Pop Masters. He also participated in many groups as a sideman.
He won the first prize for Young Talents at the Dinant Jazz Nights 2010 (Belgium) with his quartet, the first prize for Young Formations at the Comblain-la-tour Festival 2012 (Belgium) with his trio, was a finalist in the Boris Vian international piano competition of Ville-d’Avray (France) in November 2012, and was nominated for the SABAM-Musical Youths Jazz award 2013.
In 2015, he released his first album in trio, Resurrection, with Fabrice Alleman as guest. This led to a presentation tour in most of Belgium’s clubs as well in France, to festivals and to the Lundis d’Hortense “Jazz Tour”.
In 2017, he became the appointed piano teacher at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp.
Jérémy continued on his way and met new people, including the American saxophonist Godwin Louis in 2017, who allowed him to produce a second album, Eretz, produced in a quintet. It was recorded at the Jet Studio in Brussels in 2018 and mixed in New York by Dave Darlington.
While in New York, he created the quintet "The New-York project" which toured Belgium in December 2018 and January 2019.
At the same time, Jérémy is staying very active and multiplies musical experiences, from groove to electro funk, without denying jazz. He continues to enhance his skills with masters as Fred Hersch and Johnny O’ Neal. In July 2019 Jérémy is touring in Europe with the quintet of Etienne Charles.
