My musical career began at the age of 12 and I was fortunate enough to have played clarinet in the school band. The flute became my instrument at the age of 19 and at 20 I began playing the tenor saxophone.
Private lessons and study in San Francisco, California at the College of San Mateo, the San Francisco State University and the Community School of Music endowed me with a theoretical knowledge of music and the practical applications of the classroom through playing in the State’s big band. .
I began leading my own band at the age of 25 and I have performed in many venues in the United States, France, Holland and Belgium. .
My professional career has included engagements with Woody Shaw, Eddie Henderson, Michael Carvin, Bobby Few, Sonny Simmons, Doug Carn, Freddie Waits, Dick Griffin, Eddie Baccus, Jan Van der Maat, Yves Seguillon. .
Currently I am performing in Brussels, Belgium and available for dates in venues in Belgium. Plans are in the works for a recording session in Brussels. .
Additionally I envision an artistic musical exchange program of jazz musicians from around the U.S. and Europe. Sharing music, information, education in order to improve the lifestyle of jazz musicians. In 2004 I established the Jazz Action Movement, which is a non profit corporation devoted to these goals. For over a year our organization held jam sessions in a non-denominational church, and we sponsored a day-long jazz festival in 2005. Hopefully more events of this type can be sponsored by the Jazz Action Movement.
