Belgian Jazz Meeting 2015, a showcase for Belgian bands, meetings, aimed at professionals
On September 4-6, 2015, the 3rd edition of the Belgian Jazz Meeting will take place in Bruges (B). The showcase is aimed at professionals to whom 15 Belgian bans will be introduced :
LABTrio, JF Foliez’s Playground, Eve Beuvens “Heptatomic”, Kind of Pink, MikMâäk, Joachim Badenhorst-Rawfishboys, Nathalie Loriers-Tineke Postma-Philippe Aerts, Pierre de Surgères Trio, LG Jazz Collective, De Beren Gieren, Nordmann, Black Flower, Massot-Florizoone-Horbaczewski invites Claron McFadden-Secrets, Kermesz à L’est, Loops, SCHNTZL.
En event organized by Jazz Brugge, Kunstenpunt, JazzLab Series, Museact, Lundis D’Hortense en Wallonie-Bruxelles Musiques.

    Brussels Jazz Orchestra plays Gil Evans at the Northsea Festival (NL)
    Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Ryan Truesdell (composer, conductor and Gil Evans expert) have made an exciting selection of music by Gil Evans: famous and less-well-known pieces, unknown gems discovered by Truesdell, as well as a classic recorded by Miles Davis. BJO and Truesdell will play this music together for the first time at North Sea Jazz (The Haghe) on 10 July, 2015. The production will tour in the autumn of 2016.

    Final bar : bassist, composer/arranger Jean Warland / Update : Funeral info
    Bassist, composer/arranger Jean Warland Jean Warland (born 1926) passed away last night after a long illness.
    Jean Warland is known for an exceptionally long career. He played with numerous well known musicians (Don Byas, Martial Solal, Johnny Griffin, Lee Morgan, Kenny Clarke etc...). He was associated with all the major names of the Belgian jazz scene after WW II, and later with the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland big band, Toots Thielemans, Sadi, etc...He moved to Germany, was a member of the R.I.A.S. Big Band in Berlin and finally joined the WDR Big Band in Cologne, where, during 25 years, he played with prestigious names (Mel Lewis, Phil Woods, Louis Bellson, etc...).
    He led several projects over the music of Francy Boland (Sax No End, BJO).
    He also was a composer and arranger, with a passion for the music of Duke Ellington, which he presented in several projects (Sax Port, A Train Sextet, etc...).
    With Belgian musicians : a duo with saxophonist/clarinettist Fabrice Alleman, collaborations with Frédéric Jacquemin, Bruno Castellucci, Laurent Mercier, Félix Simtaine (drs), Michel Herr, Nathalie Loriers (p), Richard Rousselet (tp), Phil Abraham, Jean-Pol Danhier (tb), Mary Kaye (voc.), Bart Defoort, Erwin Vann, Robert Jeanne (saxes), Jeanfrançois Prins (gt), etc...
    A very warm and enthusiastic figure, he was known as a passionate story teller of thousands of anecdotes, the vivid memory of jazz music in Belgium and in Europe.

    At the Theater des Tanneurs, June 11-13, 2015, D Festival : "All Instruments" is a piece bringing together a dancer, two musicians and a visual artist. From creation process to stage, the four performers wished to be equal in influence. Dance (Sarah Ludi), trumpet (Laurent Blondiau), drums (Joao Lobo) and light (Yves Pezet) are all instruments of a partly improvised writing, triggered by impulses and influences circulating from one medium to the other.
    All Instruments is not a dance solo but a group piece, an improvised trio with light as the fourth instrument – a form constructed like a show, but retaining the energy of a concert.

    LABtrio is soon to record in New York with saxophonist Michael Attias and cellist Christopher Hoffman. A project sponsored by Flanders House in NY. A concert will follow up on June 10, 2015 in Barbès.
    The project is supported by the Flanders House in New York. The album will be released in January 2016, with a tour in collaboration avec Les Lundis d'Hortense.
    The musicians of LAbtrio are : Bram De Looze (Piano), Anneleen Boehme (Double bass) and Lander Gyselinck (drs).

    The Collectif du Lion has a new cd out (Odyssey 14, Werf), concerts to promote it and a book which looks back at 35 years of musical adventures : "Sur la piste du Collectif du Lion, une aventure plus que musicale !" (PAC).
