Accordionist Tuur Florizoone on US tour with Eric Vloeimans' Oliver's Cinema
Tuur Florizoone is touring in the United States with 'Oliver's Cinema', a trumpet-cello-accordion formation with Eric Vloeimans (NL) and Jörk Brinkmann (DE).
The group has 13 concerts in 12 cities... Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Buffalo, Miami... and 2 concerts in New York at the Blue Note Club on October 20th, 2014.

Drummer Tony Liégeois passed away a few days ago. He was active in the 50/60ies a.o. with the trio of pianist Jean-Marie Troisfontaines with bassist José Bedeur. He died from cancer in Brussels.

Marc Danval publishes the book (in French) "Robert Goffin, avocat, poète et homme de jazz", subtitled "De Arthur Rimbaud à Louis Armstrong". Robert Goffin, a poet (1898-1984), published in 1922 "Jazzband" (poetry), and in 1932 "Aux frontières du jazz", which are seen as some of the first books about jazz, followed by some other ones, such as "Louis Armstrong, le roi du jazz" (1947).

Final bar : trombonist Alain Palizeul
We heard the sad news that trombonist Alain Palizeul has died. He apparently took his life.
Alain Palizeul played in big bands such as Mimi Verderame's Village Big Band, CKO etc... and was a regular member of funk horn sections (with Olivier Bodson, tp, and Laurent Doumont or Hervé Letor sax), a.o. with bassist and bandleader Daniel Romeo, Laurent Doumont's Soul band, blues singer/guitarist Marc Lelangue, etc...
Funerals : this Friday in Saint-Hubert (10:30 a.m.).

Final bar : drummer Micheline Pelzer
We have just heard the sad news of the passing last night in Paris of drummer Micheline Pelzer. She played with her father, the late saxophonist Jacques Pelzer, Open Sky Unit and musicians like Wayne Shorter, Barney Wilen, Alain Jean-Marie etc...
She was married with the French pianist Michel Graillier.
She was also involved in the conversion of her father's house into the Jacques Pelzer Jazz Club in Liège (B).

Jazz World Expo : photo exhibition by Cees Van de Ven, etc... in Dommelhof, Neerpelt (Jazzcase season)
The jury of the Jazz World Photo (JWP) contest gave its award to Cees van de Ven (1940). 30 photos will be shown in the Dommelhof in Neerpelt (B) from October 16 through November 9, 2014, in the framework of the Jazzcase season.
The Frenchman Didier Jallais received the first Prize for his photo of Sonny Rollins.
The exhibition will be shown in several countries and Cees Van de Ven will present recent photos.

On Youtube, you can watch a short documentary about saxophonist Frank Deruytter. Frank talks about jazz, his musical influences, playing on the saxophone and international life experiences. Drummer Peter Erskine speaks very highly on their collaboration for the Frank Deruytter Quartet (with Eric Legnini on piano and Bart De Nolf on bass). In Erskine's opinion Frank matches the musical ingenuity of Michael Brecker.
