Busy days for composer Karel Van Marcke
Following a busy summer of favorable reviews of his new CD “Radea” with the Chroma quintet and a series of concerts, a.o. at the prestigious Blue Note Records Festival in Ghent, pianist/composer KArel Van Marcke is again busy with a number of new projects.
One is the large production - !STOP! - in the Cultural Center De Werf in Aalst, where he was asked to complete, in 1 week time, a new composition for act and choreography. Specially for the occasion he created a new ensemble, with several musicians such as Paul Klinck (viola), Mieke de Lauré (cello), Bart Delausnay (bass trombone) and singers Elisabeth Hermans (soprano), Philippe Souvagie (baritone) and a children choir.
Van Marcke’s trademark – fusion and crossover – are evident in the new creation: classic with ... jazz

A documentary movie on violinist Zbigniew Seifert feat. a.o. Michel Herr & Philip Catherine
US film director Erin Harper is currently making a documentary movie on the Polish jazz violin player Zbigniew Seifert, a great and original voice on his instrument who died much too early in 1979. The film, titled "Passion", will probably include an excerpt from a duo performance with guitarist Philip Catherine for a television show in the seventies, plus many other documents, and interviews of Jack de Johnette, John Scofield, Richie Beirach, etc...
On Oct. 29, 2007, pianist Michel Herr went to Frankfurt (D) to meet with the other members of the European quartet that the violinist had formed in 1976 in Germany : Swiss bassist Hans Hartmann and Polish drummer Janusz Stefanski. Some interviews and some live music have been recorded. The film should be completed in the Spring of 2008.
More infos on the web site of the movie. Click on the title.
