TaxiWars, the jazz group with dEUS singer Tom Barman, Belgium’s most famous saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierre. They combine lyrics, poetry and jazz with a rock intensity without sounding like crooners. Each track brings jazz which would make Charles Mingus and Archie Shepp proud. Barman’s two jazz compilations ‘That’s Blue + Painters Talking’ (Blue Note, 2006) and ‘Living on Impulse’ (Impulse!, 2012) were widely acclaimed. Verheyen moved to New York 10 years ago, where he also leads a quartet and has performed with artists such as Marc Copland, Ravi Coltrane and Joey Baron. Thys has lived in the American metropolis for almost 20 years and toured with Lee Konitz, Toots Thielemans and Zap Mama. Pierre went there in 2014 to soak up the atmosphere at the New York School of Jazz and Contemporary Music and his increasingly impressive expertise earned him the Sabam Jazz Award in 2015. A Belgian reunion at Jazz Middelheim will delight both us and them!
