Julian Lage (guitar)

Guitarist Julian Lage is lauded for over twenty years, which is all the more remarkable as he only just turned thirty! He appeared live with Carlos Santana at the age of ten, at twelve he played with Gary Burton at the Grammys and came under the care of guitar god Jim Hall and at the age of fifteen he started at Stanford University.
In recent years he lived up to the promise of his exceptional youth and has astonished the jazz guitar world. With two Grammy nominations in his guitar case, he combines his sensational play with melodic influences from pre-bebop, folk, swing and a touch of rock. His unpretentious style hides a technical aptitude that almost has no equal.
Nowadays, Lage himself is considered a leading guitarist, both in more traditional country and jazz as well as in the avant-garde circles. He plays in the band of Chris Thile (known for his work with Brad Mehldau and his Punch Brothers) in the programme Live from Here and regularly collaborates with distinctive composer John Zorn. Last June, Lage was elected Rising Star Jazz Artist in the famous Downbeat Critics Poll 2018.
A virtuosic swirl of twangy textures and gritty grooves that cry Americana with a postmodern twist (Downbeat on Modern Lore).
He doesnt need to hide behind effects (Jazz Wise).
