Renaud PERSON discovered jazz while listening to albums of Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Count Basie, the MJQ, "Papa" Jo JonesÉHe started playing the drums at the age of 12, self-taught.
Besides jazz drumming, he studied musicology and classical percussion in Aix-en-Provence.
After his studies, he arrived in Belgium and after having attended a workshop of Lundis d'Hortense, in '92, he decided to devote himself entirely to jazz and improvised music.
In '95 he obtained a 1st prize at the Brussels Music conservatory where he studied with Bruno CASTELLUCCI, Richard ROUSSELET, Michel HATZIGEORGIOU, Jean-Louis RASSINFOSSE, He also took piano with Nathalie LORIERS and Ron VAN VAN ROSSUM, composition and arranging with Kris DEFOORT
Later on, he attended various workshops, in France with Jack DE JOHNETTE, Paul MOTIAN, Joe LOVANO, Dave HOLLAND, Enrico PIERANUNZI...,
SInce 1913, he worked on the Belgian scene with many well-known jazz musicians, a.o. Paolo RADONI, Steve HOUBEN, Peter HERTMANS, Paolo LOVERI, Erik VERMEULEN, Otti VAN DER WERF, Phil ABRAHAM, Fabrice ALLEMAN, Richard ROUSSELET, Charles LOOS, Michel HERR, Frank VAGANÉE, Maxime BLESIN, Laurent BLONDIAU, Gino LATTUCA and Pierre VAIANA.
Renaud PERSON played with numerous bands, a.o. "Jazzpirine" (Phil Abraham/Richard Rousselet quartet), "Un Poco Loco" (Pierre Vaiana Group), "Aquarelle" (Stephan Bracaval-Ernst Vranckx quartet), Pierre Lognay quintet, ALCHIMIE with a.o. saxophonist Nicolas KUMMERT and guitarist Philippe REUL and appears on the cd Alchimie (Igloo Igl 153).
At the end of 2003, he formed his own quintet, RENAUD 5.
Renaud teaches at the European school in Brussels and at the Mouvement school.
