Trombonist Phil Ahraham to perform in Russia
From August 24 through 28, 2016, trombonist Phil Abraham will be on tour in Russia (Crimea), where he will perform during the Koktobel Jazz Party, with the International Jazz Quintet led by pianist Yakov Okun.

    Final bar : guitarist/arrangeur/bandleader Freddy Sunder
    Guitarist/Arranger Freddy Sunder has passed away at the age of 85 in Antwerp on August 4, 2016 (source : VRT).
    He was the leader of The Clouds and played a.o. with Toots Thielemans, Natalie Cole, Shirley Bassey, Peggy Lee en Sammy Davis Jr., Jack Sels, etc...
    He was member and one of the arrangers of the BRT JazzOrkest, and even led de BRT big band until it was disbanded.
    In his last years of activity, he led his own big band.

    On July 1, 2 & 3, 2016, the trombonist Phil Abraham will be the godfather of "Val'en Jazz", the Valenciennes Jazz Festival (F). He will give 2 concerts, one in quartet (with Victor da Costa, Sal La Rocca, Thomas Grimmonprez), the other one as a soloist with the Univers Jazz Big Band, playing a.o. a couple of arrangements written by Michel Herr.

    June 19, 2016 : « A Lighthouse for Lampedusa », a project of the German artist Thomas Kilpper, followed by a debate with a.o. of Giusy Nicolini, the mayor Lampedusa.
    On April 20, 2016 : Brussels Jazz Orchestra with guests : David Linx, Tutu Puoane, Brussels Vocal Project, I Solisti del Vento and 5 soloists of the Syrian Big Band.
    Premiere of "Two Small Bags, Ten Millions Dreams", a piece composed by Frank Vaganée on a text by Michael De Cock (a CD is available).
    The benefits of the evening will go to Music Fund.

    On June 4, 2016, Jazzisfaction Big Band (B) was Top Class Winner at the IBBC (International big band competition) in the Netherlands. Vocalist Els Artois won a Prize as best soloist.

    On May 28, 2016, guitarist Philip Catherine won a Echo Jazz Award in Germany for his album "the String project" (ACT), in the category "Guitar, International". The album was recorded live with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie (cond. Frank Braley), with the contribution of several arrangers (a.o. Michel Herr, Stéphane Collin, Bob Porter, etc...).
