The Toine Thys Wonder Brass Band appears in the American tv show "The Amazing race". The Belgian episode was watched by 20 million viewers in the US.
Toine Thys (sax soprano) played a sextet arrangement he wrote for a 6 piece sax band, with Gregor Siedl (tenorsax), Marti Melia (bass sax), Grégoire Tirtiaux (bari sax), Daniel Stokart & Maayan Smith (alto sax).

The band Mâäk touring Africa with the group Kojo
From 10th December 20110 till 1st January 2012, the band Mâäk will be touring Africa with the group KOJO in Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal. Film director Sam Asaert will make a documentary of the tour !

Brussels Jazz Orchestra re-creates Agatha, by Kerkko Koskinen (Finland)
The Brussels Jazz Orchestra is back on stage with Agatha, a contemporary jazz composition written by Kerkko Koskinen and inspired by one of the most successful crime writers of all time, Agatha Christie. A cinematic, at times surprising, as well as mysterious composition. The atmosphere of action movies and police series from the '60s is never far away.
For the occasion, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra will be joined by I Solisti del Vento and Russian trumpeter Alex Sipiagin: 9 additional wind instruments to interpret the ambitious sound universe of Agatha. The premiere will be held at Flagey (Brussels). Followed by performances at Vooruit (Ghent) and deSingel (Antwerp).
Concert dates: 20, 21, 22 December 2011.

André Klenes wins the Roger Vanhaverbeke Bass Trophy 2011
Bassist André Klenes is the winner of the first edition of the Roger Vanhaverbeke Bass Trophy, organized to the memory of the late Belgian bassist.
André Klenes will receive his award on January 22, 2012 from the hands of Nancy Vanhaverbeke, Roger's daughter, and Toots Thielemans.
The Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel will give a Prize of 1500 € and 2 gigs : on jan. 22, 2012 at the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel in Zaventem, and on April 12, 2012 at the Jazz Club Etoile (formerly Jazz Club Lionel Hampton) at the hotel Le Méridien-Etoile, in Paris.
The other 2 finalists were Félix Zurstrassen and Michel Vrydag.
