Brussels Jazz Orchestra music curator at the TAZ Festival in Ostend
At the end of July 2010, after a short summer break, the BJO will be taking part in six concerts at the Theater aan Zee festival (TaZ) in Ostend. As the name indicates this is a festival dedicated to theatre but it has an extensive music programme. The BJO has been invited to present several projects: together with 't Arsenaal the orchestra will perform three musical productions of Vliegen tot de Hemel. This is neither a concert, nor a theatre performance, nor a multimedia production. It is all of those - with Frank Vaganée as composer, Michaël de Cock as writer and director, Gerda Dendooven in charge of live visuals and projection, Lynn Cassiers and the BJO for music and lots of actors from 't Arsenaal performing. Vliegen tells the story of the Minotaur, an adventure for an audience both young and old.
At TaZ Mama Africa and Tutu Puoane will be part of the festival premiere.
For TaZ the BJO has put together a special programme for a unique Dance Matinée, with songs from the forties and fifties.
One of TaZ's main objectives is the discovery of new and young talent. Wannes Capelle, of Het Zesde Metaal, was spotted by TaZ in 2005 and was awarded the Young Music Laureat prize. At TaZ's request for a special performance for the 2010 edition the BJO has rearranged nine pieces from Akattemets for big band.
