Django d’Or in France
The ceremony took place Thursday, Nov. 30th at Pavillon Baltard - Nogent-sur-Marne.
A grandiose event during which, where we Belgians are concerned, Riccardo Del Fra (double bass) was awarded the Django d'Or in the category "confirmed musician".
Riccardo is well known in Belgium through many years of collaboration with Belgian jazzmen, namely with Toots Thielemans (trio/quartet with Michel Herr, tours in Japan & the US), Charles Loos, Kurt Van Herck, on the "Just Friends" soundtrack or as member of the Michel Herr European Quintet (CD « Notes of Life » IGLOO IGL 142, 1998).

An appearance by the Belgian young talent winner & nominees (Jean Paul Estiévenart , Lorenzo Di Maio, Mélanie De Biasio).

The honorary Django d’Or went to Armenian born record producer George Avakian.
His biggest contribution to the music business was the creation in the 1950s at Columbia of the widest-ranging and most successful popular album catalog the industry had ever seen. It soon resulted in the displacement by 12-inch pop LPs of the three-minute single as the main source of income for record labels worldwide, while also elevating jazz through treating it as an integral part of a pop album catalog rather than a specialty. That’s when people started calling him the Father of the LP, and later grandfather of the CD.
