Contest for Belgian jazz themes organized by Sabam for Jazz Hoeilaart 2013
Like every year, SABAM organizes a composition competition for Belgian jazz themes (lead sheet format) in the context of Jazz Hoeilaart (September 2013).
The winning work will be the imposed work for the finalists of the Jazz Hoeilaart Int'l Contest for young bands.
All jazz composers member (or future member) of Sabam can participate
The deadline is July 19, 2013. Prize : 2000 euros offered by CULTURE SABAM.

Exhibition "We want jazz" at the Jazz Station in Brussels, June 15 - July 13
At the Jazz Station in Brussels, June 15 - July 13, 2013, an exhibition titled "We Want Jazz" will pay a tribute to 5 jazz trumpet players from the city of Mons : Albert Langue, Richard Rousselet, Gino Lattuca, Jean-Paul Estiévenart and Adrien Volant.
Prepared by Michel Mainil, the exhibition will propose photographs a.o. by Sébastien Marcq, and all kinds of documents and objects, as well as films and more....

Bert Joris with Tutu Puoane and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic : cd in December, video on Vimeo
Bert Joris (trumpet/composer/arranger) wrote the music and arrangements combining vocalist Tutu Puoane (and Ewout Pierreux, piano, Nicolas Thys on bass, Martijn Vink on drums) and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic conducted by Martyn Brabbins.
A live cd, recorded at De Roma (B) on March 24, 2013, should be released in December 2013.

Saxophonist Joop Ayal, born in Indonesia in 1925, died in Jette (B) on 28th of May 2013.

Winner of the XL-Jazz Contest : the band Syma
The winner of the XL-Jazz Contest for young bands organized during the Brussels Jazz Marathon is the band Syma, with :
Lionel Polis (p), Viktor Perdieus (s), Quentin Stokart (g), Louis Frères (b) and Louis Evrard (dr).
They opened up the Sunday concerts on May 26, 2013 and will be performing during the next edition of the Brussels Jazz Marathon in May 2014.
