In 2009 the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, in collaboration with the Gent Jazz Festival, will organize the fifth edition of the BJO International Composition Contest. The contest is open to all new big band compositions by composers of 40 years of age or less. After the preselection process a maximum of four contestants will proceed to the finals. The compositions of the nominees will be interpreted by the Brussels Jazz Orchestra under the direction of each respective nominee at the Gent Jazz Festival on Thursday 9 July. An international jury will subsequently announce the final winner of the "BJO International Composition Contest". The winner will receive the "Brussels Jazz Orchestra Composition Award". A new aspect this year will be the inclusion of a prize of the public.
Compositions by candidates must be sent to the competition secretariat by May 1st 2009 at the latest in order to be accepted.
The contest is open to all nationalities
Participating musicians must be younger than 40 years
Candidates have to forward their composition before the 1st of July
A Jury of the preselection will choose maximum 5 candidates for the finals
The finals will be held in the framework of the "JazzHoeilaart Intern'l Contest" at the Community Centre de Bosuil at 3090 Jezus-eik/Overijse
The prizewinner will recieive the "BJOICC-AWARD" to the amount of 1500 euro besides the publishing of the compostion on cd ; there will be also the "Prize OF THE PUBLIC" etc..
