Nontuthuzelo Elaine Puoane est née (°1979)dans un township à l'extérieur de Pretoria. Il se révéla très rapidement que sa voix l’amènerait hors d’Afrique du Sud. Tutu a commencé sa carrière professionnelle à Johannesburg en 1997. Elle a étudié le chant jazz chez Jelena Reveshin et fait une formation de voix classique chez Virginia Davids à l'université de Cape Town. Elle se perfectionne ensuite : chez Rachel Gould au Conservatoire Royal de Musique et de Danse à La Haye, ateliers avec Deborah Brown et Dianne Reeves ...
En 2004, Tutu a obtenu le “Standard Bank Young Artist of The Year Award for Music” en Afrique du Sud. En 2006, elle est une des douze demi-finalistes du “Brussels International Young Jazz Singers Competition” organisé par nos amis du Music Village. Tutu a également été la chanteuse guest du “Brussels Jazz Orchestra” dans le projet “Writing Billie” autour de Billie Holiday.
Tutu a reçu, entre autres, plusieurs Awards en Afrique du sud pour ses prestations musicales “Old Mutual Jazz Encounters for Cape Region” en 2000 et le prix du talent en devenir du “Daimler Chrysler South African Jazz Competition”. Elle a déjà partagé la scène avec les artistes connus comme Sibongile Khumalo, Marcus Wyatt, Jack van Poll, Hein van de Geyn, Hans van Oosterhout, Dré Pallemaerts, Stacy Rowles, Mark Murphy, Madeline Bell, Georgie Fame, Roy Hargrove, John Engels, ainsi que notre parrain, Toots Thielemans..

Tutu Puoane was born in South Africa, but has lived in Belgium for many years. Her professional career began at the age of 18 in Johannesburg and she then became one of the most famous jazz singers in the Benelux countries. Moving from English to sePedi, her native language, the South African artist deploys the whole range of her talent.

In this quartet, the smooth voice of Tutu is accompanied by a mutinous double bass, a soft piano and is supported by an exotic and sensual rhythm.
