The music of AKA MOON comes out of a passion for AKA Pygmies with whom they lived for a while in the great forest of Central-Africa (1991).
After five years of existence, AKA MOON has recorded eight CDs of original music (two of them in Bombay with Indian guests) and one CD of AKA Pygmies music recorded with the local people.
They also performed and recorded with guests such as Indian percussionist Umayalpuram K. SIVAMARAM, percussionist Doudou Ndiaye ROSE from Senegal, French guitarist Marc DUCRET, guitarist Pierre VAN DORMAEL, etc...
Anyone who has seen this fiery group perform will confirm that AKA MOON is at its instrumental best on stage.
"The power and fluency of this band are almost overwhelming. Check them out live and see just how insipid most new rock bands are." (The Bulletin, Belgium)
"Cassol let it rip with tremendous breath control. Hatzigeorgiou, a devotee of Jimi Hendrix, was brilliant with his speed, chord work and use of harmonics. Galland was in absolute command and the bass drum that kept moving away didn't seem to bother him...Whatever Aka Moon were playing, it was 'mind blowing'." (THE HINDU, INDIA)
In the Belgian jazz referendum organized by Belgian radios RTBF and VRT, AKA MOON was elected best small band of the year '98 in the categories Belgium and Europe.
In the '98 Belgian (french speaking) critics poll, the CD Trilogy "Ganesh/Elohim/Live at Vooruit" was elected Records of the year.
Various formulas, built around the trio. Details on their web site.
